For the Girls: Rohingya Version
For the Girls: Rohingya Version
A culturally sensitive approach to women's health.
For the Girls: Rohingya Version was created by our team of female content creators, many of whom are refugees themselves. This book provides Rohingya adolescent girls with a resource to prompt important conversations regarding women’s health.
Along with basic health practices, the book encourages creativity, innovation, and community-based work throughout all phases of life. The picture-based approach is designed to encourage girls to ask questions and spark conversation among their peers, regardless of their literacy level.
Example topics include:
1) Nutrition
2) Physical activity
3) The Menstrual Cycle
4) Community-based activities
5) Entrepreneurship
We recommend pairing this book with our Teacher Guide: Rohingya Version to receive lesson plan ideas, discussion topics, and group activities.

"Before my period, I didn't have idea about it."
My period started few months ago. Before my period I didn't have idea about it.
So, I was thinking and was scared and shy to share with anyone.
I didn't know about using a pad. I was changing my dress to hide it but it didn't work so, I was sleeping the whole day saying I was sick.
I thought it was a serious disease.
I think every girl should know about periods prior to their first period. I hope Books Unbound will support all the girls to get this program.

What is the target age range of this book?
We've tested this book in Kutupalong, Bangladesh over the past few years and found that the book is most useful for girls between ages 12 - 20.
However, it is common for older women to use these books and spark conversation with younger girls.
These books are designed to promote conversation building and informal learning, regardless of literacy level.
Does this book work for illiterate students?
Absolutely! That's why we create picture dictionaries. We want to remove barriers of entry to learning, especially for illiterate students.
We strongly believe in the power of cartoons in building vocabulary and promoting conversation, especially for users with limited literacy skills.
Can I use this book to learn Rohingya?
Yes! Native English-speaking humanitarian workers and volunteers use our books to learn Rohingya - a perfect tool for a cultural and language exchange.
This is especially helpful if you're working in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Can you build this Girls' Book for another community?
Yes! If you work with a language population that could use a picture dictionary, fill out this form with additional information. We'll be in touch!
Can you do custom projects for organizations / companies?
Yes! We work as consultants for organizations to produce custom contextualized projects. See some of our previous work here.
